Nanny Bench
The Nanny's Bench dates from the early part of the 19th century and was most commonly referred to as a mammys bench. The infant was placed on the side of the bench with the gate in it and rocked, while the mammy was free to use both her hands to do other chores. When the bench was not being used to rock the baby, the gate was removed to allow seating for adults.

Boston Rocker
The Boston Rocker also dates back to the early 19th century. It is one of the
most common and practical of the early rockers, and was in many homes during
its day. These chairs featured fine stenciling, much the same as the Nanny's
Bench, which accented their charm.
